Martha's Vineyard Florist Donates Valentine's Roses

One World Flowers customer, Martha's Vineyard Florist, spread the love a little farther than usual this Valentine's Day by donating to local non-profits throughout the community. Ellen O'Brien, the shop's owner has been buying Fair Trade Certified flowers since 2009 and is committed to the values of Fair Trade: social justice, environmental protection, and economic development. After receiving extra flowers in her Valentine's week shipment, she and her team reached out to the community to spread joy and the message of Fair Trade.

Ellen made arrangements and delivered them to  Martha's Vineyard Hospital. Oak Bluffs Senior Center, Vineyard Haven Thrift Shop (which supports island charities), The Love House (an affordable home for seniors), The Vineyard Haven Town Hall, and the Library!

She said of the event, "The Fair Trade Certified™ label empowers workers on flower farms around the world to put nutritious food on their tables, send their children to school and invest in community development. We like to take opportunities to complete the circle and invest in our community here, too."

Everyone who received flowers remarked that it was a wonderful Valentine's Day surprise, and it brought a lot of smiles to faces around the island.

MV Florist and Gifts has been providing floral and gift services on the Island of Martha’s Vineyard since 2005.
